About Wylie House Museum
Built in 1835, Wylie House was the home of Indiana University's first president, Andrew Wylie, and his family. Today Wylie House is owned and operated by Indiana University as an historic house museum recreating the Wylie home prior to 1860. Personal archival collections related to Andrew Wylie and his extended family are maintained by the museum. The unique collection is comprised of a wide variety of materials, including many photographs related to the family. Portraits, family photographs, property images, and photographs taken on travels through the Midwest are included in this online compilation. The museum’s artifact collections consist of a wide range of 19th century furnishings and textiles, many of which were the property of Wylie family members. In addition, a large family correspondence collection is being preserved and made accessible by the museum.
